Ava's 1st Birthday Butterfly- Themed Party

On July 16th, we celebrated baby Ava turning the big 0-1! I'd like to say we had a nice little intimate gathering, consisting of only those with whom Ava is fond of, but let's face it- it was a BIG intimate (and sentimental) gathering with only our favorite people who love Ava! I hope that this post gives fellow party hosts inspiration and ideas.

This is the first party I have thrown in a long time where I actually had the resourses to do (and make) everything exactly how I wanted. The talk of the party was Ava's handmade birthday banner and table runner. Then there were her pictures, month by month, that I hung on gift bags that I saved from her baby shower. Butterflies and tissue paper pom poms galore! Let's not forget the food and the best part, the cake!!!

This is all cloth fabric so that I can reuse it, and eventually, incorporate it into a quilt.

The Birthday Girl, when all was said and done

Of course, the day of Ava's party, she was fighting a fever, thanks to teething, but she was a trooper the whole way through. I would never have been able to do all this if it weren't for Crystal, who is able and willing to help set my ideas in motion.

My Etsy shop will be open within a week where you can order a custom birthday banner, but, of course, message me with any questions before then.

Here is the recipe for the Heavenly BLT Bites. You'll notice I added in the word "Heavenly" :)

I made them my own by:
Replacing 1 pound bacon with one and a half packages of Bacon Bits,
Replacing 1/2 cup of mayo with 1/4 cup of light mayo and
Replacing 1/3 cup of green onions with 1/4 cup of light chive and green onion cream cheese.

Welcome to My New Blog

A little over a year ago, I left my job at a major financial institution to stay at home with my kids. I was six months pregnant with Ava, and Luke was 2 years old. I had no idea what I was getting myself into- becoming a SAHM and all. All I knew was that I made a terrible career mom :-/ and I couldn't put another baby in daycare for 12 hours per day. I would not trade my new job for the world, and I have no plans to return to the workforce until my kids are of school age, but sometimes I really really REALLY miss my twenty minute breaks, and, of course, that nice little paycheck.

Since leaving my job, I have moved into a new home, had a baby, potty trained a 2 1/2 year old, adjusted my household to my hubby, Johnny, switching to work the night shift, broken my ankle and recovered... for the most part, lost 50lbs yay! and discovered who I am and what is most important to me. This blog is about my everyday life... kids, being married, friendships, working out & eating well, crafting and drinking wine. And what is so flippin spectacular about that you ask? Nothing, except that I am very real and very raw, and I've known I wanted to start a blog for a long time to share what happens in my house so that I can hopefully make people laugh.

Here are some things to help you get to know me (to know me is to love me ;))

I have 2 kids, Luke and Ava, and I still haven't experienced that "done" feeling that I hear so many other moms talk about having. I also have a husband, Johnny, who is pretty awesome, 2 dogs, Carina and Misiu, who were my kids before I planned on having real human being kids, and a ball python named Sasha.

Johnny and I have been together for just about ten years. He is absolutely amazing and supports me in everything I do. Also, he is an RN, so if the situation shall arise, there is always someone to perform CPR because I will panic for sure.

I am loyal and honest to a fault. I'm learning some people aren't worth the loyalty and some things are better left unsaid.

Talking on the phone makes me anxious and nervous and causes me to sweat. Thank God for modern day technology and the ability to text!

I love Lady Gaga and everything she is about.

Everyday I live my life with purpose and gratitude.

I drive 25mph on my way home from the grocery store because I hate the sound of my neatly placed groceries rolling around in the back of the car.

I loathe mother's guilt and it seems to make an appearance more than I care to admit.

I LOVE lists! If it's not written down, I will forget it. Plus, I love the feeling of accomplishment when I can mark something off my list. I have a pen and paper out all the time for a list. Even in the car.

Being organized and having a clean house makes me happy. There, I said it. I don't care for the act of cleaning but when I wipe a dirty surface clean, I will take a step back and think damn that looks good!

I could never ever ever be a vegetarian. More power to you if you are, but I love me a big fat juicy burger every now and then.

I try my best to live the Golden Rule, but try even harder to set that example for my kids.

I hate to admit this, but after almost 30 years, I finally have a love and respect for exercise and putting good food in my body. I fought working out and eating right after having my kids, but low and behold, you actually have to do both things if you want to lose weight.... And keep it off!

I am obsessed with grammar, being punctual and having good etiquette. If you hear me using slang but I look like I don't know that I'm using slang, I am being totally sarcastic.

I am armed and dangerous. bang bang

I am addicted to reality TV.

I have a mini celebration when I get to "poop in peace." Any parent knows what I'm talking about.

I cannot stand how people misuse and overuse the words literally and epic. No, your heart was not "literally pounding out of your chest" because then you would be dead as a doorknob.

Well, enough about me already!
